This 12 year old girl received treatment just in time! The crowding of her upper canines would have been very difficult to correct had she waited until the second molars erupted. In this case we were able to create room for her upper teeth by using an active appliance first followed by braces. The results were very pleasing for the child and her parents!

This 8 year old boy came to see us for a second opinion. His mother was concerned about the crowding in his front teeth and had been told by a previous dentist that teeth would need to be removed in order to make room. Unfortunately, two lower deciduous canines had already been removed by the time Dr. Friesen had first seen him.
Our objective in this case was to first expand the upper and lower arches with functional appliances in order to create room for the crowded teeth. After achieving this, we proceeded to straighten the front teeth with braces.
Since the lower primary canines had been removed prematurely, we needed to keep the space open for the permanent canines to come in. A lower retainer was constructed in such a way as to prevent these spaces from closing up.
